Get to know more about streaming

How does streaming work?

Streaming TV, also known as online or internet TV, is a way of watching TV via the internet. Streaming is a way of transmitting or receiving data over a computer network, and it is a continuous flow that begins to access data while the rest is still being received. This means that you can start watching a video while the rest is still in the process of loading- you do not need to decompress or save it first. All you need is a subscription for a streaming service and good internet connection.

I have a smart TV, but I’ve never used it except regular cable. What do I do?

  • If you already have a smart TV, you can download apps in order to stream different content. Most of them just require a subscription.

I don’t have a smart TV. How can I stream?

  • Streaming TV does not have to be strictly from a smart TV! Gaming consoles, a streaming stick/or plug in, any type of computer, and/or a box all work.

There are so many streaming options. Which one should I choose?

  • On-demand streaming, Live TV Streaming, and Free Streaming all have their advantages, and you should pick the best one that suits you. On-demand is one of the most popular options, and allows you to watch original and licensed content. Examples of on-demand streaming are Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, and HBO NOW. Live streaming is exactly what it sounds like, and offers more flexibility to those who want more content to access. Examples of Live TV streaming are YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, PlayStation Vue, DIRECTV NOW, and Disney +. There are also plenty of free streaming services, including Pluto TV, Kanopy, Vudu, YouTube Movies, and Roku Channel.

If I want to try streaming, do I have to cut my cable immediately?

  • Not at all! While there is a boom of new subscribers to streaming services because they offer more flexibility and freedom, it is not for everyone. For someone who follows a lot of different channels, TV shows, and sports, switching to a streaming service can be more expensive compared to cable TV. You can always have the best of both worlds- or at least until you decide which one you prefer.

If I stream TV, can I still watch live TV, or only past shows and movies?

Choosing a Live TV streaming service is a good option for those who still want access to real-time streaming. Many live stream service providers offer both real time and past shows and movies.

I’m still not sure what to do. Can you help me set my TV up?
